Trekking in Nepal during November
November is the final official peak (best) trekking season month in Nepal.

In November the mountain views are at their best with good clarity and temperatures. During the day it's sunny with the sun shining brightly. During the night the temperatures drop a little more than the previous month but not greatly.
For the most part at 2,000m expect day time temperatures of 21+ degrees and temperatures at night around 7 degrees.
November trekking tips
- Dress in layers to cope with warm days and cooler nights
- If you have only set days then book a November trek earlier in the year to prevent disappointment
All treks are possible in November from the all-time popular treks like Everest Base Camp and the Annapurna Circuit trail to remoter treks. Do keep in mind that the popular treks can be crowded. However it's still rare that accommodation gets fully booked out. If it does, you simply trek on another 30 minutes to the next village.
What is the weather like in November for trekking in Nepal?
November falls squarely within Nepal's peak trekking season, offering some of the best and most reliable weather conditions for trekking. The monsoon season has ended, leaving behind clear skies, crisp air, and stunning mountain vistas. Trekkers can generally expect pleasant daytime temperatures in the mountains, reaching 21+ degrees Celsius, making for comfortable hiking.
Nighttime temperatures cool down considerably, often dropping to around 7 degrees Celsius, requiring warm layers. As always, temperatures decrease with increasing altitude, but the clear, dry weather typically ensures pristine views of the surrounding peaks. November's stable weather patterns make it a highly sought-after month for trekking in Nepal.
The dry and sunny conditions prevalent in November minimize the risk of rain or snow at lower and mid-altitudes, making trails generally easier to navigate. However, it's still essential to be prepared for potential temperature fluctuations, especially at higher elevations and as you approach the end of the month.
While the days are typically sunny and warm, nights and early mornings can be quite cold. It's also important to remember that weather in the mountains can change rapidly, so staying informed about forecasts and being prepared for varying conditions is always advisable. November's combination of comfortable daytime temperatures, clear skies, and relatively low rainfall makes it an ideal time to experience the beauty of the Nepali Himalayas.
* weather temperatures and conditions change as you go up in altitude or descend. Likewise there are variations depending on the trek. Always expect passes and base camps to have more extreme conditions. The temperatures listed here are only used as rough indications.
Historical weather data for trekking in November
Since publishing my guidebooks we've been keeping an accurate record of both GPS data for trails and the weather to try and help trekkers make decisions.
The following information is correlated based on real trekking guides and trekkers who were in the following areas. The weather data is broken down into the year of the trek, weeks in the month and a note on what a guide or person experienced in terms of weather. We've used EBC, ABC and the APC for weather examples as they cover the widest range of areas.
EBC = Everest Base Camp. ABC = Annapurna Base Camp. APC = Annapurna Circuit.
* Blank years or months just means the guide or data is/was not available. It may also mean we've not had the time to update the data here (we have a lot of data on all treks). We are trying to keep this information as accurate as possible. If you are looking for specific data you may contact us, however you can best support this site by purchasing a guidebook first.
This historical climate/weather data may be useful to some but do remember that that the weather can change on an hourly basis in Nepal.
What trekking clothing is needed during November in Nepal?
Dressing in layers is the most effective approach for trekking in Nepal during November, given the temperature variations between day and night. While daytime temperatures can be warm and sunny, making trekking shorts and t-shirts or, better yet, dedicated trekking shirts comfortable, it's essential to pack warmer layers for evenings and higher altitudes.
Long trousers and a warm fleece are advisable, even during the day, as breaks and lunch stops can bring a chill. As you ascend, be prepared with additional layers like a down jacket or a warm, windproof outer shell. Evenings and nights will be cold, requiring warm layers from head to toe. A light sleeping bag is a valuable addition, providing extra warmth and peace of mind, especially on less popular trails where the availability of blankets in teahouses might be less certain. A sleeping bag liner is always a good idea for hygiene and added warmth.
Is trekking accommodation on the trails open during November in Nepal?
All trekking accommodation along the established routes will be open in November, as it's peak season. However, securing preferred rooms, especially on popular treks like Everest Base Camp or the Annapurna Circuit, can be competitive.
While it's rare for all accommodation in a village to be fully booked, popular teahouses can fill up quickly. A good guide will typically call ahead to reserve a room for you. If your preferred choice isn't available, you might need to adjust your accommodation expectations or consider moving to the next village along the trail.
Are trekking restaurants on the trails open during November in Nepal?
Similar to accommodation, all restaurants and teahouses along the trekking trails will be open in November, offering full menus. Food is readily available throughout the peak season. As always, it's customary for trekkers staying in a teahouse to also dine there. This is an important aspect of teahouse culture. Be sure to confirm their policy on outside food and drinks to avoid any misunderstandings.
For a deeper understanding of teahouse etiquette and dining customs during treks, I highly recommend consulting my guidebook trekking in Nepal.
Are trekking permits available in November in Nepal?
Yes, trekking permits are available year round in Nepal including November. Permits are available in both Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Do you need travel insurance for trekking in November?
Trekking in Nepal during November means you'll need travel insurance. It's peaks season and the weather should be good. This is when trekkers often enjoy going that bit further, beautiful views distract along with conversations with other trekkers. It's very easy to get distracted, trip over or twist and ankle.
